Can We Talk Law ?

In Hebrew the word Law, means Torah, the first five books of the Bible. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.

To the Hebrews, Torah, did not mean LAW, it meant Instructions and Directions. That revelation, brought a whole new meaning of Gods LAW to me. I saw that Gods Law, wasn’t a law at all, But rather Gods instruction, directing me as I grew, in the ways to live a healthy, prosperous life.

God wasn’t punishing, or restricting me at all, he was doing what any good parent would do, he was raising me, instructing me, and directing me, Just as my mother had done all my life.

The day that I understood that basic principal, My relationship with God, my Heavenly Father changed.

The Strong’s Concordance word is 8451 Torah: direction, instruction, law. The term Law, is not a Hebrew term, its an English Translation word, and to us, it means something completely different. It gives us the idea of being restricted in some way, and that’s not the way God intended it, The Hebrew people understood that, and we should too.

Can you see, that God is only trying to Gently instruct and direct us ?? See that paints a Beautiful Portrait of the relationship between God and yourself. God is so much more than an iron fisted ruler with a set of laws that must be followed to the letter. God is exactly what the bible says he is, a Loving, Kind, Compassionate, Caring Friend and Father.

God didn't put us in bonds, he set us free, and he wants us to enjoying all the wonderful things he has made for us. He wants us to be happy, and to be like him, God loves us, Just like we love our own children.

Would you allow your child to eat rat poison ? Of course not, Would you allow them to eat foods harmful to their health ? Of course you wouldn't, and why not ? Because you Love and want to protect them.

Interestingly enough, that’s exactly why God instructed his children not to eat certain foods too.

I saw a study that leading Scientists did on the clean and unclean biblical foods, and guess what. The foods deemed unclean, were all extremely bad for human consumption, and the foods deemed clean foods .. You guessed it, they were all Extra good for humans to eat. In fact, they all had healing properties built right in, Isn’t that amazing !! …
Again, God wasn’t trying to punish or restrict us in some way, He was trying to help us live healthy lives.

How many of you, as adults, have looked back on your childhood, and realized that your parents were not trying to be hard harsh regulatory laws on you. But were in fact passing along tools and skills that you would need someday, as you grew up, and dealt with others in your daily lives. The passed along Morals and skills, as they taught us to be fair, upright, just people. People who loved and cared about their neighbor, and fellow man.

Can you see how that’s exactly what God has done too, His commandments teach us how to Love, and be moral people, who honestly care one for another, and there is Nothing Legal about that.

1. Love, loves God only.
2. Love will not make graven images or false idols.
3. Love will honor a fathers name.
4. Love will honor a fathers request, to sit and rest.
5. Love honors a father and mother.
6. Love will not Kill.
7. Love will not commit Adultery.
8. Love will not Steal.
9. Love will not tell a Lie on someone.
10. Love will not covet/desire another’s husband/wife or possessions.

Romans 13:9-10 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Love worketh no ill to his neighbor, Therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Jesus said, if you Love me, keep my commandments. (John 14:15)
That includes the fourth commandment,

Exodus 20:8-11 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

With Much Hope and Love,
Pastor Will Matherly
